Enhancing Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety: How MDOT and Other Agencies Utilize Near-Miss Data Along Its Corridors – Steven Hollenkamp, Quality Counts’ (QC’s) expert in near-miss analysis, will present valuable insights drawn from projects with the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) as well as other government agencies. He will explore how state DOTs are leveraging near-miss conflict analysis in key applications, such as addressing corridors with bike and pedestrian safety concerns, securing Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funding through benefit-cost analysis, and fostering public and stakeholder engagement. This dynamic session will deepen participants’ understanding of safety in transportation engineering, demonstrating how the proactive use of near-miss data can inform the development of more effective countermeasures and lead to safer transportation networks.
